Torchwood / Doctor Who: Hope

Third part of the series Conversations . Jack tracks down the Doctor regenerated.
I could not see more than a couple of episodes with the new Doctor so do not know if it's in character or not. Chronologically This story takes place about three months after the last meeting between Jack and the tenth Doctor, after the events of The Eleventh Hour.

Title: Hope
Genre: somber
Rating: for all
Spoilers: Children of Earth TW, DW The End of Time, The Eleventh Hour
Characters: Jack Harkness, the Doctor
N. words: 920

Dedicated to Joy, a friend and valuable beta:)

Jack Harkness sat in a quiet corner of the bar, a half-empty bottle on the table, looking out but indifferent to the spectacular expanse of stars. Without think he raised his glass in his hand and drank the contents in one breath, grimacing when the alcohol burned his throat. He closed his eyes, savoring the flavor compound that even briefly brings to mind an image of quiet evenings spent in his office and shared with that last cup Ianto at the end of the day.
suddenly felt observed and turned, opening his eyes. A tall, thin man seemingly out of place in that space bar was staring at him.
- Jack? - Asked with a hint of doubt the newcomer.
- I think I have mistaken for someone else - said warily, standing intent to leave.
- Captain Jack Harkness! I expected better from the man I waited for almost one hundred and fifty years, - he declared the other calmly.
- Doctor? - Jack asked incredulously, watching him from head to toe looking for any sign that did recognize the old friend.
- Regeneration - guessed the captain. The ladies of the time
smiled smugly.
- I knew that there was a reason why he liked it so much, - he said.
Jack said nothing and the doctor spoke again.
- You know, right? He should not have to do it. But he was so confused as to be convinced that he would die for good. It took me a while 'to recover, even the TARDIS was collapsing and had to regenerate and repair itself.
Jack stiffened, suspicious.
- What are your intentions? - Asked harshly.
The man smiled slightly and ran a hand through his hair, reminding him for a moment the exuberant version.
- What's done is done, further into the past would interfere with more headaches than it solves. But control of the split is at risk and the Earth can not afford it.
- no turning back - Jack said angrily, ready to attack the Doctor as if he were an enemy.
- but I think you should do so before Torchwood fall again, into the wrong hands.
The captain raised his voice, indifferent to the glances which he and the Doctor began to be covered.
- Gwen I left in command, will not let anything happen, - objected.
The Doctor shook his head.
- The descendant of the brave woman who closed the gap now has a family to worry about. And others do not have the power to oppose the UNIT.
- It is not my problem - Dry Jack said, turning to leave.
- No? It 's weird because I thought you cared. When he ... When I violated the rules was for you, because you care. Because there was no way to save the child but there was the possibility that all will eventually save Ianto was going in the right direction. But you're still here to bask in despair as if it were your penance, while there are people out there who need you.
Jack clenched his fists, furious.
- For what? For Alice to remember that I killed his son and can not retaliate in any way? To poison the lives of those I love with my immortality? The Lord sighed
time. The captain had always been a hard head and make him understand why it was not an easy task.
- To prevent such horrible events to happen again, not to give up control to someone like Yvonne Hartman, or even just because the current staff of Torchwood Three is doing its best but lacks training and supposed to care because it is Ianto Jones, Alice and Lois Carter Habeb and because all those who love you feel miserable without you.
Jack was speechless. Ianto was not surprised that Lois left or after tasting adventure was not returned to the secretary. But Alice had hated everything that was important for him, his work almost more of his immortality.
- Alice is stubborn as his father, but had close friends who have helped to temper the pain and re-evaluate some things. If you do not want to do it for other reasons, do it for her. Back home, Captain Harkness.
There was nothing else to say. The Doctor took a step back, but thought better of it, pulled out a pocket from the sonic screwdriver and took his wrist, fiddling with the joystick of the vortex.
- You can use it to navigate in space and to call in an emergency. But the next time he abuses the off completely - warned him with a jovial tone that once again endeavored to Jack a bit of nostalgia for lost time now in which he had traveled with the Doctor.
- Thanks, - was all he could say in a choked voice and snapped to attention, a habit which apparently could not shake.
not returned to drinking, had important things to think about, people who had left him convinced that he never see. The blame for the death of Steven would never have abandoned, as had always felt responsible for Grey, Suzie, Owen, Tosh and many others. But was waking up in his heart a spark of hope and I clung tightly. He pressed some buttons on the remote control and closed his eyes as he was passing away to reappear millions of light years away, in front of the Cardiff Bay under the stars surrounding the Earth. He had returned home.

Ianto followed Jack to the Thames House. It was now just a few steps from where a circle of light and wrapped it takes your breath away. He wanted to alert the captain but did not have time to open his mouth that he found himself teleported elsewhere.
- Hey, careful with that weapon! - Cried a voice behind him.
He turned abruptly, ready to defend himself, when he saw the man before him.
- Doctor, we need to help Jack and the others! - Said with urgency.
The ladies of the time he stood where he was, a deep sadness in his eyes.
- I'm sorry - all he said.
- Jack says she has saved the world countless times, do something!
- I can not, everything is already decided - he admitted.
Ianto did not understand.
- bring me immediately where I was!
The Doctor pressed a lever and the TARDIS left leaning for a moment, doing nearly losing his balance to its occupants.
- What's happening? Why am I here?
- I promised Jack I'd saved, - said the doctor, continuing to tinker with the controls.
Ianto shook his head incredulously.
- Jack was with me. We were going to deal with the 456, - said puzzled.
- Not that Jack. That is, of course, Jack is the same, but in your timeline will be in six months - the doctor tried to explain, with a glimpse of that vitality that normally set him apart.
- But we can not leave him alone! May be ... - Ianto could not think of a captain without feeling the need to stay close, hold him in my arms every time she came back to life.
The Doctor stopped the strange commands to maneuver the TARDIS and looked him straight in the eye.
- Now it happened, Jack has saved the Earth and has paid a heavy price for that. Prevent die too was the only thing I could do to relieve your pain.
A flash of understanding through the eyes of the young.
- Who? - Asked as a node shook his throat as if to throttle him.
- Steven - revealed the man's voice sorrowful time.
- me back. And 'he who must save, not me! - Declared passionately.
- I can not, - he seemed not to repeat much lately.
- But do not you understand? That child is the grandson of Jack and I am nothing!
The shadow of a bitter smile appeared on the face of the Doctor. Had saved his life but he broke my heart.
- Even if it were true, and believe me there is nothing more wrong with what you just said, there are events that can not be changed. Jack has accepted it and asked me to do this for him.
The Doctor leaned heavily on the console. The weather was getting out of the hands and had other things to do, before surrendering to the inevitable.
- We came, - said start-up at the doors of the TARDIS is wide open.
Ianto followed him, looking around, uncertain until they knew the street where his sister lived.
- Why here? - Churches.
- We went on two days. Gwen and Rhys are with your family will be happy to see you.
- And Jack? - Asked in a whisper.
- Somewhere up there, - the Doctor said, pointing to the sky with one hand.
Ianto closed his eyes, making his best to mask the pain.
- not coming back, right? - Defeated the tone of one who knew the answer.
The Doctor looked him straight in the eye for a long time, tried to give him a hope to cling to. But it was not what Jack had asked him and he could only hope that if one day they met again, it would be too late.
With a quick nod and turned back into a time machine, my mind already addressed in the next step and the next goodbye.

Mecerces Commercial Son

Torchwood / Doctor Who: The ultimate gift

My first short story about the recent passion for these two television series is a simple 'what if', a variation on the last meeting between Jack and the Doctor.

First of four parts of the series Conversations .

Title: The ultimate gift
Genre: somber
Rating: for all
Spoilers: Children of Earth TW, DW
The End of Time Characters: Jack Harkness, the Doctor
N. words: 709

Dedicated to Joy who shares my passion for Jack Harkness and his companions)

Jack read the package passed to it from the bartender did not understand. The man pointed to a point on the other side of the bar, where he was the Doctor, in response to her questioning look, he nodded his head causing him to look to his left.
At that moment a young officer sat on the stool beside her, placing his cap on the counter.
- No! - Jack shouted angrily, standing up suddenly and ran among the patrons of the bar until you reach the doctor outside the room and stop his escape, taking him by the arm and making him turn.
- Hello Jack, - a flat tone that contrasted with the usual enthusiasm of the last lord of time.
- I do not want consolation, - said Jack strongly, noting the only time the air discharged from the old friend.
- There is nothing I can do, - said the Doctor sadly triggering his anger.
- You were not on Earth when it happened! You can go back and save Ianto and Steven - his voice broke inexorably to pronounce the name of her lover and her grandson both died because of him.
The Doctor sighed slowly, looking for the right words.
- There are moments that are fixed points in time, no matter how much we would like to change, interfere only worsens things.
The pain was too much for the captain to feel right.
- It was only a child, it was my nephew! - Protested strongly.
- I know Jack, but I can not return it, - he said softly, fighting the impulse to embrace friend.
A thought suddenly infiltrated his mind.
- If you were left alone at Thames House would not change the final outcome but ...
- Ianto would still be alive! - Concluded for him, a gleam of hope in his eyes.
- It 's what you want Jack? Could you live knowing that I could save only one of the two?
clouded gaze of Captain while in the blink of an eye relived the death of Ianto.
- I did not believe that this was really happening, I have not said it was the best thing that had happened in over a hundred years, I did not even say that I loved him, - he said with tears in his eyes.
The Doctor was silent for a long time before finding.
- Jack, you will break your heart when you see it die again.
The captain ran his hand over his face, erasing the trail left by tears, a new determination in his eyes.
- No. He has the right to a long and happy life, and can only have it without me. I will never return to Earth, not in the near future, at least. Foul Doctor, by the possibility that I've taken. The Lord nodded
time, this would be his farewell gift to the Captain Jack Harkness, a small thing compared to what their meeting was shaken and changed the life of man from the 51 th century and intended to continue live for thousands of years.
He started to turn around and get to the TARDIS when a hand rested on his arm again.
- Is everything okay? - Asked Jack, once again able to look beyond their grief.
- Almost, - replied the other, the shadow of a sad smile on his face, the mere thought of the little time he had left.
Jack felt the torment behind those eyes that reminded constantly lit up with excitement and hugged him impulsively. A time travel with the Doctor was his dream, was not a bad life.
- Can I do anything? Want to come with you?
- Travelling on my own now, - said the Doctor, taking a step back and extricating himself from.
- But we shall meet again, right? - Insisted pervaded by an ominous sign.
- Oh, I see more than you might imagine, Jack, - exclaimed. That he had already lived all their future meetings preferred to keep it.
- I better go, I have someone to be saved and an event that I can not fail, - added a hint of a military salute to which Jack replied, snapping to attention and murmuring a thank you.
The unmistakable sound of the TARDIS leaving Jack collected his thoughts. After evaluating the possibility he decided to return to the bar. He had something important to celebrate and perhaps, if he was still there, Alonso could keep him company.
